Seven consecutive property tax reductions, the county has reduced the county property tax rate by over 40 percent since McLaughlin took office in 2017.
The Rensselaer County bond rating has been upgraded to the highest level in county history.
McLaughlin's budgets have generated millions in savings in personnel, and purchasing, all while sales tax revenue soars to over $100 Million.
County facilities have been improved through the Reimagine Rensselaer County Facilities project initiated by McLaughlin that includes a new county office building at 99 Troy Road in East Greenbush, renovation of the County Office Building in downtown Troy and a new Probation Department office adjacent to the County Office Building in downtown Troy. The plan also includes a secure and efficient county storage facility.
The Reimagine project has reduced a long-standing and costly reliance on rented space in the county.
The Reimagine Rensselaer County project also included opening three new senor centers since 2023. The Troy, East Greenbush-Rensselaer, and Hoosick senior centers are newly renovated, state-of-the-art facilities designed to expand programming and delivering great services for seniors in Rensselaer County. The Schodack senior center is currently under renovation and will be opening in 2025.
Upcoming projects include a renovation and improvement of the county’s Van Rensselaer Manor nursing home which was opened over 25 years ago, and improvements to three county Highway garages in Berlin, Spicer Hill and Grafton.
Under McLaughlin's Reimagine Rensselaer County Facilities project a new state-of-the-art Emergency Services Training Complex was built on Macha Lane in North Greenbush.
The training facility is used by the Fire Departments and Emergency Medical Service Squads that call Rensselaer County home. The building offers a safe training facility and meeting space.
Under McLaughlin's leadership and commitment to infrastructure improvements the county highway department has paved over 300 miles of county roads and invested $15 million in new and improved highway equipment.
McLaughlin continues to make important infrastructure improvements by extending sewer and water services, in areas of US 9 in Schodack, US 4 in North Greenbush and State Route 67 in Poestenkill.
McLaughlin has continued to stand up to Governor Hochul's disastrous budget cuts in CHIPS funding for road maintenance and repair.
